Currently Okemo Mountain School Offers 3 Major Disciplines; Alpine Ski Racing, Snowboarding, and Freestyle Skiing. Through these 3 disciplines, athletes are able to compete at the highest levels and maximize their own athletic potential. This passion and dedication to snow sports will remain with the student-athlete for years to come.
As a premier snowboard program and a key player on the regional, national and global stage, it is of no surprise that The OMS Snowboard program is one of passion, untiring work ethic, and excellence.
Our program is an all-encompassing training regimen to create well-rounded riders on varied terrain. Whether it’s participating in all day-switch riding clinics or breaking down a McTwist during a trampoline session, our goal is to help riders achieve a strong foundation on which to build up from and branch off of. Our methods include cross-training across several disciplines within snowboarding to better adapt to changing competition styles and features. For example, running a GS course to refine tactics for pipe riding or undergoing specific pipe riding drills to better negotiate a boarder cross course. It is this philosophy that has taken OMS riders from local competitions all the way to the Olympics.
With camaraderie, sportsmanship, and having fun in the safest of environments, OMS coaches and athletes strive to attain the highest levels competitive snowboarding… One ollie, jib, and spin at a time.
Here at OMS, we are focused on helping athletes achieve their dreams. This is done through obtainable goal setting. We accommodate athletes in search of many different long term goals, whether it is to be skiing on a national team, a Division I Collegiate team, USCSA Collegiate team, or just becoming the best skier they can be. Our program is highly individualized to each athlete’s aspirations and because of the close coach to athlete ratio, OMS athletes get the attention they need to see positive changes in their skiing. Our athletes compete at every level of alpine ski racing.
OMS athletes benefit from a great variety of training opportunities. We are fortunate that Okemo Mountain Resort provides use with lots of different training venues, seven days a week. The flexibility and openness the mountain offers is superb and unrivaled.
The Freestyle program allows athletes to compete at a high level in all aspects of Freestyle and Freeski competitions. Athletes spend an average of 6 days a week on the hill, skiing all morning with our full time coaching staff, followed by a strength and conditioning routine or use of our on-campus trampoline. This unique experience allows athletes to maximize their potential on the hill. The program competes in all aspects of USSA and USASA competition series as well as Ski the East Freeride tour.
OMS athletes have dominated Ski The East tour, placed top 3 at USASA Nationals, and medaled at X-Games events.
*OMS provides a successful strength and conditioning program that focuses on strength, power, agility, flexibility, coordination, and anaerobic/aerobic exercise to improve each athlete’s potential.
