Mount Hood On Snow Camp- Coming to a Close
Our student-athletes are nearing the end of their time at the Mount Hood On-Snow Camp. It has been a very eventful camp, keeping athletes and coaches alike, on their toes. As we head into the final stretch athletes are focused and working hard.
The alpine crew just wrapped up their slalom block on Friday. All of the athletes have made huge leaps and bounds in their skiing, many reaching new personal bests. We are now 2 days into the GS block. There has been a strong focus on good fundamental skiing. We have also included a tactical focus, using brushes to create the “wall drill”. This helps athletes wait for the riseline and put the turn in the best spot for maximum acceleration and clean arcs. We have two days of GS left and we are seeing some amazing improvements.
The snowboard crew had been mixing it up in gates, the pipe, and the park. There has been a lot of good trick progressions and a focus on edging technique. It has been awesome to see the riders and skiers coming together and spending some time training in gates together. We have a lot to learn from each other and the comradery has brought all of everyone together.
The afternoons have been filled with hikes, soccer, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and workouts. While our main focus is the on-snow training, we have also had a ton of other fun athletic activities in the amazing state of Oregon. Everyone is having a blast and we look forward to finishing our camp strong and with our best skiing and riding ever.
